The name of the park is something special as well! We're proud to dedicate this park to two remarkable city residents: Ida and Laurie Bickley. This dynamic duo volunteered at the Columbus Library three days a week, for over 14 years (until Ida was 94 Years old)! Ida is a real fireball and her daughter Laurie is, too. Laurie has Downs Syndrome and has shared her unforgettable spark and smile with our community and library patrons over the years. We are honored to mark the impact of ordinary citizens on our City's history, fabric and community. Learn more about Ida and Laurie Bickley (PDF)!
Gratitude is also due to Mabel Todd and her family who sold the one-acre property to the city where the park is now located. She was a beloved fixture of the Columbus Senior Center, her neighborhood and her church. She loved music, particularly the piano, and we hope the musical instruments at Bickley Park inspire budding musicians.
Annual events at Bickley Park and South Salt Lake Community Center include the Senior Ball, Ties and Tiaras Dance, Breakfast with Santa, and a Chess Tournament!

Kaleidoscope Park
3116 South 500 East, South Salt Lake, UT 84115
Kaleidoscope Park is a small tract of land adjacent to Fitts Park that was started as pollinator park to provide critical habitat for Monarch butterflies, bees, hummingbirds, and all other variety of wildlife. Pollinators play a vital role in our agricultural industry, local economies, and overall health of our ecosystems. Unfortunately, many pollinator populations have experienced drastic declines in recent years. Population loss can be linked to several contributing factors including loss of habitat, changing climate and associated weather patterns, disease and pesticide use. Mill Creek runs through the park, which now hosts several local pollinators, grasses, trees, and milkweed to attract all types of wildlife, and yes, Monarch butterflies!
By planting specific pollinator plants in your yard, you can help create habitat and attract these creatures to your area. Click here to learn more about the Utah Pollinator Habitat Program and to claim your habitat kits and seed mixes.
