Funds & Resources
South Salt Lake has funds and resources specifically designated for redevelopment purposes. These resources help municipalities pursue economic development, create jobs, eliminate blight, construct public works. Additionally, they can rehabilitate residential, commercial, industrial and retail districts. However, to access and utilize these resources, municipalities must create and sustain an agency to oversee their use.
In the City of South Salt Lake, this is our Redevelopment Agency (RDA).
What We Do
Our RDA encourages new development that will create jobs and generate tax revenue for the community to help revitalize the City. To do this, the agency assembles land for development, invests in public infrastructure to assist private enterprise, increases the affordable housing stock within the City, and aids in the entitlement of property to be developed.
The RDA's efforts are focused in designated zones, including portions of the Downtown, Streetcar and Riverfront neighborhoods.
Adopted Budget
Recent Projects
Examples of recent redevelopment projects within the City include:
- The WinCo Foods on 2100 South and State Street
- The Zellerbach apartment development along the S-Line and 300 East
- The South City development between Main Street and West Temple at 2150 South
- The Riverfront Development near the Jordan River
How We Do It
The South Salt Lake City Council members serve as the governing board of the SSL Redevelopment Agency, and two members are voted into chair and vice-chair positions. The Mayor serves as the Executive Director of the Agency and exercises the agency's executive powers. During each election, voters choose their RDA board and City Council/Mayor at the same time.
RDA meetings are now streamed live. RDA meeting videos are available for viewing anytime from the City Ustream.tv page. There are apps available for all mobile platforms.

- Is the RDA part of the city government?
-
Under Title 17c of the Utah Code, the Redevelopment Agency is a separate, distinct legal entity from the City. However, the RDA shares the same leadership management as the City government.
- What incentives can the RDA offer developers?
-
Tax Increment Financing is the primary source of revenue that the Redevelopment Agency has to offer. There are other programs available through the State of Utah and various federal agencies, such as Housing and Urban Development and the Department of Commerce, that are commonly pursued for additional funding.
- When does the RDA meet?
-
The RDA meets on the same scheduled dates as the City Council, in a separate meeting with a separate agenda. Typically the meeting is before the regular City Council meeting.
