A Message From Fire Chief Terry Addison
Thank you for visiting our webpage. In the Fire Department, we are partners with you, our community. It is the people we serve and those that serve them that are the heart of our mission.
I could not be more proud to serve the City of South Salt Lake and lead an incredible team of dedicated men and women who step up to ensure that our residents, employees, and co-workers continue to receive the highest level of fire and emergency medical services (EMS) services in the valley. We undoubtedly have numerous accomplishments with this great group of people and are focused on what is yet to come for the South Salt Lake Fire Department (SSLFD) and the incredible community we serve.
I'm excited to report that as of May 1, 2021 our fire department improved from an Insurance Services Office (ISO) Class 3 department and received an ISO Class 1 rating. Less than 1% of all rated communities across the United States have received a Class 1 rating. We are the second department in the State of Utah to receive this rating and are very proud of it. ISO's Public Protection Classification Program (PPC) plays an important role in the underwriting process at insurance companies. In fact, most U.S. insurers - including the largest ones - use PPC information as part of their decision-making when deciding what business to write, coverages to offer or prices to charge for personal or commercial property insurance.
As Fire Chief, I commit to you that your fire department will always strive to work with the community as we address the many challenges in community risk reduction. Again, thank you for your encouragement and support for the South Salt Lake Fire Department.

Important Documents
- Who do I contact if I have an emergency/non-emergent situation?
-
For all emergencies, please dial 911. Dial 801-840-4000 for all non-emergency Fire and Police requests. Our Department dispatches both firefighting vehicles and ambulances/emergency personnel.
- Why is a nearby fire hydrant gushing water?
-
Periodically, the Public Works Department will flush fire hydrants throughout the City, removing sediment that has accumulated in the system. This results in water gushing from fire hydrants. A notice will be posted to City News whenever hydrant flushing is in progress.
- Who do I contact if I see a leaking fire hydrant?
-
While it may seem logical to call the fire department, all fire hydrants are maintained by the South Salt Lake Water Division within Public Works. Dial 801-483-6014 to report a leaking hydrant.
