South Salt Lake Community Center
The South Salt Lake Community Center is a pillar in our community. This unique Spanish-style building was built in 1918 and served as an elementary school for over 80 years before becoming the city's first community and recreation center in 2000. The Center hosts several important community services and partners, and provides indoor and outdoor rental options for anyone hosting a meeting, club or event.
The Community Opportunity Center (Co-Op)
The Co-Op is a space for City residents, community members, groups, and partner organizations to connect, work, learn, and grow. Located inside the Columbus Center, we offer resources for Digital Inclusion, Financial Empowerment, Career and Business Advancement, and Basic Needs Services and Referrals.
Recreation Department
South Salt Lake's Recreation Department is housed in the SSL Community Center.
Recreation Office Hours: Monday through Friday, 9 am to 5 pm.
- The City's Recreation Department operates out of the Center and leads classes, camps and leagues for all ages and interests. Staff are available to register for classes, leagues, room rentals and other services.
- Open gym is held in the gymnasium next to the Recreation Department
- Exercise anytime at the outdoor FitLot in Bickley Park north of the building.
Arts Council
The South Salt Lake Arts Council provides a wide variety of art classes inside the Center. All classes are low-cost or free to residents and offer opportunities for all ages to participate in the arts through classes hosted by local artists. Senior Center
The South Salt Lake Senior Center (previously the Columbus Senior Center) is a joint venture between South Salt Lake and Salt Lake County. The Center is a great place for those 60 years and older, where residents can have fun and meet new friends while participating in a wide variety of classes and social activities. Lunch is served Monday through Friday at Noon.
In partnership with Meals on Wheels, the Center provides both delivery and pickup meals for elderly residents. For either service, please call 385-468-3340 the day before you would like to receive your meal. For additional information, please call 385-468-3338. Transportation is available for those who live in the City.
Best Buy Teen Tech Center
Promise SSL's fun and free technology lab where youth can experiment and innovate with a range of advanced tech, including Microsoft Studio computers, a 3D printer and a recording studio.
Promise South Salt Lake Hser Ner Moo Center
Fall and Spring Hours: Monday through Thursday, 4 to 7 pm; Friday, 2:30 to 5:30 pm
Summer Hours: Monday through Friday, 9 am to 5 pm.
This Promise SSL youth center is named after a young refugee girl who had settled in South Salt Lake from Thailand. The center offers help with reading, math, science and English as a Second Language (ESL), as well as fun clubs and sports activities for students from Kindergarten through 12th grade.
The Center also works with community partners to offer ESL classes, parenting support and more!
Head Start Preschool
Utah Community Action runs a preschool classroom within the center. To enroll your child or learn more about their support services, please visit their website.

Little Free Library
"Check out" from and contribute to the Little Free Library at South Salt Lake Community Center (look for the pirate ship). If you would like to host a book drive to help collect books for this library box, contact connect@sslc.gov. Learn more about Little Free Library.
Columbus Library - Now the Granite Library at a New Location
